My Big Family (2010-ongoing)
My Big Family is a long-term and ongoing project that I initiated in the summer of 2010. Beyond being a mere portrait of my extensive family, the primary aim of this project is to depict the evolving family structures in China and the gradual decline of the traditional extended family since the implementation of the One-Child Policy. Over time, as policies have shifted, the reasons behind the disappearance of the traditional extended family have grown more diverse. Broader societal changes have introduced additional factors, such as urbanization, shifts in family values, and pressures related to education and employment. These factors interact with one another, collectively contributing to the transformation of the traditional extended family model.
